Theta Epsilon Chapter History
The Theta Epsilon Chapter of the DKG Society, sponsored by the Alpha Sigma Chapter, under the leadership of Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Chairman, and Mrs. Virginia Nelson, Co-Chairman, of the Expansion Committee was organized at the Women's Club, Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, January 21, 1967, by Miss Eula Lee Carter, State Chairman of the Committee on Organization and Expansion, assisted by Mrs. Ruby Lee Lefferty, State President, and Miss Phyllis Ellis, State Executive Secretary.
The following officers were elected: President: Ruth Breed, First VP: Elizabeth Leavitt, 2nd Vice President: Inez Witte, Recording Secretary: Marie Stockard, Corresponding Secretary: Celestia Davis. Frances Watkins was appointed Treasurer and Roger Mae Smith, Parliamentaria.
The first year and half of Theta Epsilon Chapter was a good beginning. The membership was expanded to include the outlying communities in the two counties, Hockley and Cochran. All the brass paraphernalia and the Bible for ceremonies has been bought, and the chapter had the unique privilege of being able to present a scholarship to a DKG member from India-Charmazel Dudt. The chapter was represented at the State Convention in Ft. Worth by Mrs. Ruth Breed. It was represented in 1968 in Dallas by Mrs. Marie Stockard.
